Abortion Rights Are Meaningless Without the Funds to Access Safe, Legal Abortion Care

Important Notifications (!!!)

6-WEEK ABORTION BAN IS IN EFFECT

As of May 1, 2024, abortion care is legal in Florida only until 6 weeks of pregnancy.

The law banning abortion after 6 weeks has exceptions for the life of the patient, physical health of the patient, and lethal fetal anomaly, but requires two doctors to certify in writing. Legal exceptions for rape, incest and human trafficking are also included in the law but require official documentation.

For care after 6 weeks, a person may need to leave the state to get care or access sites like INeedAnA.com and PlanCPills.com for safe and effective abortion pills by mail.

Even if a person is not sure how far along their pregnancy is, navigators at abortion clinics can help them figure out their options.

Our Resources page has more information on Broward clinics and other options.

Voting in November

In April 2024, the Florida Supreme Court voted 4 to 3 to allow the Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion on the ballot this November. This initiative places the decision to legalize abortion care in Florida in the hands of voters.

An overwhelming majority of Floridians support reproductive freedom and this November we can vote #Yeson4.

About Us

Founded in August 2003, the Broward Women’s Emergency Fund (BWEF) believes that the right to choose abortion is meaningless without access to safe, legal abortion services. We oppose all efforts to restrict abortion rights and are committed to fighting for access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including abortion care, for all women, girls and pregnant folks, regardless of income, race, age, disability, gender identity or immigration status.

You need to know this

Facts about abortion you need to know.

  • Although the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, abortion care is still legal in Florida and many other states but restrictions are impacting many in our community and support is needed more than ever.
  • Some people are tricked by so-called ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ – fake anti-abortion clinics – to believe their pregnancies are less far along, so by the time they seek termination, they may need a more expensive, complicated procedure.
  • Check out our Resources Page for additional, need to know information about abortion care.
